#21 Deeptech Insights - Driving Forward: Private Mobility Takes Center Stage in the Future of Transportation
DeepTech Innovations Unlocked: This Week Our Expert News Analysis for Smarter Business and Investment Decisions
By Ruben Amouyal, Deeptech Expert
What is going on?
Let’s think about the idea of a major and profound technological change in the automotive industry. This sector has never experienced a major revolution since the invention of the 4-stroke combustion engine in 1862 by the Frenchman Alphonse Beau de Rochas. Although the electric car is not new, it is now being distributed on a large scale in our cities and countryside. Let’s take a broader view. Electric mobility concerns everyone, from the scooter to the large transporter. It is land, but also sea and air. Each generation must manage its technology and its use, our elders have known the acquisition of freedom with the car, our parents have seen the democratization of air travel, we are entering one of the greatest technological changes in mobility of the last century and who can tell us what our children will experience?
What does it mean?
As we are facing technological limits that are only waiting to be exceeded, we need to completely rethink the way we move. Energy demand in 2023 is at an unprecedented saturation point and governments are pushing to reduce consumption, yet we are facing a growing demand for electricity. What are the solutions? Ensuring the best energy transition in the automotive industry. But that requires significant investments from the players in the ecosystem as well as changes in the behaviour of governments and populations. Remember the change to electric railways, who would have thought it to be possible? Its change required new pictures of the landscapes; we made them.
Why should I care?
💸For markets: we are experiencing a mobility transition towards new ways of travel.
The transition in the mobility sector is disrupting traditional markets and creating new opportunities for businesses and investors. Companies that are early adopters and innovators in electric mobility, autonomous mobility, shared mobility, and other emerging trends are positioning themselves to gain a competitive advantage and capture market share in the evolving mobility landscape. Companies that fail to adapt to these changes risk losing market relevance and competitiveness. On the other hand, investors are actively seeking opportunities in the mobility sector to capitalize on the potential for growth and returns in areas such as electric vehicle manufacturing, autonomous vehicle technology, charging infrastructure, mobility platforms, and sustainable transportation solutions.
At the same time, the mobility transition results in cost savings for businesses in the long run. Transitioning to electric vehicles can lead to reduced fuel costs, lower maintenance costs, and potentially lower operating costs compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. Similarly, shared mobility services can provide cost-effective transportation options for businesses and individuals, reducing the need for individual car ownership and associated costs.
🧑🏿🤝🧑🏻For society: changing preferences and behaviors of consumers are driving the demand for new mobility solutions.
Our habits will be totally modified with this change. Consumers are increasingly looking for sustainable, convenient, and cost-effective transportation options. This is creating a shift in demand towards electric vehicles, shared mobility services, and other innovative mobility solutions. What concerns us all? our freedom! The fundamental image of the car is freedom, autonomy of movement. It is no longer possible to turn back the clock. Today, electric mobility mainly concerns the automobile, with hybrids, all-electric vehicles and hydrogen. Taking an interest in this subject means anticipating your travels of tomorrow. But be careful, we must not kill the thermal system for all that, on the contrary, this philosophy must remain a player in the automobile pleasure, the automobile sport. We have grown up with this technology and it must remain the symbol of a whole range of craft and technological know-how. Perhaps reserved for certain brands, certain players in the field of pleasure and sports cars.
🔮What’s next? Practicability vs Passion.
Government regulations and policies play a crucial role in shaping the mobility sector. Many governments around the world are implementing stricter emission regulations, promoting electric vehicles, and supporting shared mobility as part of their sustainability and climate change goals. These regulatory changes can impact market dynamics, create opportunities for companies that comply with the regulations, and pose challenges for those that do not.
If you ask me what I think about all this transition I will reply to you that we need to see two different sides of the car and mobility. One side would be the tool of mobility and the other one the passion and the emotional feeling the product as always been known for. Electric Mobility will be the Public and smart mobility player, and all the regular engine (from petrol or alternative solutions) would be the emotional with the sports and pleasure side of the Private automotive industry.
Therefore, let’s reduce our CO2 impact but don’t let our legacy fall into the Oblivion.
✨ That’s all for today. Thanks for reading ! Stay tuned for our next article coming up next week with our Deeptech Trends Newsletter.
